Melrose is a Scottish Border town set in the foothills of the mighty Eildon Hills. Defined by its proximity to the River Tweed and the dramatic landscape that surrounds it, Melrose is the perfect holiday destination for those wanting to explore Scotland and Northumberland alike. Edinburgh is just over an hour’s drive away and the Northumberland coast is not too far either, with Bamburgh also being reachable in just over an hour.

Looking out onto the rolling Melrose hills, our holiday homes in this rural town are perfect for a countryside escape, whether that’s a short break or a longer holiday. Some of our properties are a few miles from the town’s centre in little nearby hamlets, which gives them that extra sense of remoteness while still being within walking distance of bustling Melrose and all its amenities. 

Things To Do in the Area

For those looking to challenge themselves, a trip up the Eildon Hills may be in order. Totalling around six miles of walking distance, venturing up all three in one day is definitely achievable and is a great way to see the Scottish Borderland in all its glory. Melrose is also the birthplace of Rugby Sevens and held the first tournament for the sport here in 1883. It still holds an international tournament every year in the Spring which is well worth investigating if you’re looking to book your trip around this time. 

The town is also home to lots of places to eat and drink and some lovely local shops to explore. Highlights include the Greenhouse Cafe and Apples for Jam, which are both great places to visit for a spot of tea or coffee and cake. For something a little stronger, visit one of Melrose’s brilliant pubs, including The Ship Inn and The Kings Arms.
