Holiday Cottages in Warkworth and Amble
Regularly referred to as “the friendliest port”, Amble is a quiet area of the Northumberland coast full of friendly locals. Warkworth, just a half an hour walk away, is a quaint rural village with lots of historic charm. Much in keeping with the rest of Northumberland, Warkworth is also home to a twelfth-century castle which dominates the skyline.
Our cottages in the area are situated around the Amble harbour and boast immense views of the River Coquet. With balconies overlooking the moored boats, our self-catering properties in Amble have that extra-special quality about them that makes them perfect for a relaxing and restorative retreat to the North East coast. We also have dog-friendly cottages in the area, should your pup fancy a trip to Amble and Warkworth as much as you do!
Things To Do in the Area
As the southern gateway to Northumberland Coast’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Amble is an up-and-coming destination with its trendy harbour village shops, an excellent seafood centre and popular eateries Sea & Soil, The Old Boat House, Spurreli ice cream parlour and The Fish Shack.
During your visit to Amble, you can also enjoy weekend markets, boat trips around Coquet Island to see puffins and grey seals and walks along the promenade. A short drive away is Druridge Bay beach and Warkworth village with its art gallery, beach and castle and the pretty village of Alnmouth with its colourful terraced houses on the banks of the river estuary.
Warkworth Castle is also well worth a visit for those into their history. First built over 600 years ago, the castle’s remains still dominate much of Warkworth village and are a fascinating place to explore. The castle was home to the very powerful Percy family for centuries, who were incredibly influential in the running of Northumberland. To learn more about the family, visit nearby Alnwick castle, which was another of their majestic properties and is still in the hands of their descendants today.
