Description

For a stay like no other on the Northumberland Coast, spend time in this colourful and characterful cottage that’s just a short distance from Craster. With its signature smoked kippers and a vibrant fishing harbour, Craster (1 mile) is a fantastic base from which to explore the AONB coastline of Northumberland. Step out and follow the Dunstanburgh Castle Walk (1 mile) to discover magnificent sea views and eventually reach the castle itself (2 miles), or continue further along this coastal pathway to reach the wide sandy expanse of Embleton Bay Beach (3 miles). Close by, you can also visit Alnwick (6.5 miles), a picture-perfect market town with a 13th-century castle that’s starred in some of your favourite blockbusters and TV shows!

Designed and decorated for families with character, you’ll quickly notice that each room in this quirky property is maintained with its own colour scheme and overall theme. As well as being visually stunning, the property also offers an extremely comfortable stay with all of the appliances you’re going to need for the duration of your holiday. On the ground floor, a generous farmhouse kitchen is equipped with an Aga, a breakfast bar and a generous seating area for enjoying meals as a group. From here, you can then step through into the sitting room with comfortable sofas and chairs, a warming wood burner and a Smart TV. A secondary lounge space with an additional Smart TV and further comfy seating can also be found just next door. An extremely spacious property, the ground floor is finally completed with a versatile utility/laundry room and a downstairs WC. Via the entrance hallway, continue up onto the first floor. All five bedrooms can be found right here, alongside a family bathroom with a sumptuous roll-top bath. Each bedroom has been furnished with a luxury French velvet bed and stunning soft furnishings to match. Four of the bedrooms are made up as doubles, the largest of which boasts an en-suite with both a bath and a corner shower. The final room is a beautifully presented family bedroom with a double bed, a TV and a bunk bed that’s perfect for two kids. There’s even an additional en-suite right here creating a self-contained suite.

The style and spaciousness of the interior continues as you step out into the garden. Partially set to lawn and partially paved, the enclosed garden is a fantastic spot for children’s games and summer evening lounging. There are plenty of seating options, a chimenea and outdoor lighting to complete this space.

Reviews

The most colourful house you will ever visit. Immaculately clean, full of interesting objects, furniture and art. Every kitchen gadget you could ever need ! The house is very comfortable, nice big garden and it's a lovely environment for a family get together. 15 minutes to walk down to Craster or a couple of minutes in the car there is a whole range of information on things to do and places to go. The Cottage Inn, just a few minutes walk, does very good pub grub and is definitely worth a visit - make sure you call and book a table for weekends. Highly recommended, we absolutely loved it.

Mr M,

We had the most fabulous week here, everything was catered for. Craster colours is a fantastic house and we’d definitely come back. Excited to see the cinema and disco rooms.

Mrs J,

We had a brilliant week at Craster colours. Its quirky decoration meant there was always something new to see every time you walked into a room. There was lots of space for all of us and well equipped to meet all our needs. It was also great that it was so dog friendly. The aga was a challenge but we mostly got it by the end of the week and the cottage inn pub was brilliant when we didn’t feel up to the task. The location was brilliant with the coast just a short walk away

Miss M,

The house is quirky and very clean. Welcome Pack is more than enough. There is a lot of pink if you like that colour, it is a comfortable place. The dogs are enclosed at the back of the house. The Aga is easy to use just got to remember there is knobs to turn and the left hot plate is hotter than the right, quite simple. The Cottage Inn is only a few minutes walk, and the food is excellent, you will have to book for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It's dog friendly. You can walk in to Craster via the footpath near the pub. doesn't take long. There are plenty of nice beeches to the north or south of Craster. Would recommend the place. David and Rachael

Mr C,

Craster Colours was the most fabulous long weekend stay. We were a group of 12 adults. We found the house clean and beautifully presented. The decor is truly stunning and so much fun to look at, but with the benefit of also being incredibly comfortable and homely. The house is colourful and every single piece of furniture, soft furnishings, art, utensils, equipment etc has been tastefully and lovingly placed! The kitchen is large with lots of dining space, a lovely AGA oven and kitchen aid. 2 large fridge-freezers. There is copious seating in the 2 reception rooms. The bedrooms are spacious and stunning! 2 have en-suites and one family bathroom and a toilet downstairs. Beds comfortable with nice bedding and towels. Modern well designed bathrooms. The whole house is warm and comfortable. There is plenty of private parking. The house is set back from the (quiet) road through Dunstan and feels very private being detached with plenty of space around it. The garden was also beautiful, with colourful garden furniture and palm trees. We loved the pink festoon lighting in the evenings. Would love to go in the summer to make more of the garden! The location is great in Dunstan village, round the corner from a Village Pub/Inn and a walk or very short drive to Craster and the Northumberland Coast line! Would absolutely book Craster Colours again. Exciting that there is a Disco room and cinema room to come!

Mrs P,

Lovely quirky house, really comfortable and relaxed.

Mr B,

Fabulous, quirky house in a superb location for exploring Northumberland. This house is stuffed full of character and provided the perfect base for 6 adults and 3 dogs to get together. The super dining area was the perfect spot for sociable evenings of food, drinks and board games.

Mrs R,

Great house in a superb location. Super garden area and we all felt relaxed. Minor issue was the aga - not having ever used one before, I was unsure and we therefore ate out more than intended

Dr B,

Craster Colours is a generous and comfortable large family holiday house. We love the peaceful setting close to but not in Craster. The location is superb for heading to all the beaches and visiting the many castles about. Once you have got to grip with cooking on the Aga it’s a joy, although it can be a bit warm in the kitchen on warm days. All the towels dry quickly though. The house was very clean, the provided welcome goodies excellent and the garden is great for small people to run around and play on the new climbing frame. Oh and the adults enjoyed our stay too! Happy holidays !

Mrs C,

Brilliant house for families or friends. Beaches nearby, lots of really good places to eat & can take your dogs.

Mrs C,

For a large family group with 7 adults, 4 children 3 and under and 6 dogs this was a great, quirky house, lovingly furnished, in excellent order with a welcoming feel and no petty rules in a beautiful part of the country.

Mr P,

Whilst the highly colourful decor is not my personal choice, it was a truly amazing property with visual surprises popping up even to the last day. Loved it

Mrs T,

Fantastic holiday. The property was very well equipped and beautifully quirky. Location was fab

Mrs H,

We loved Craster Colours but felt the state of the garden let it down. The garden was very overgrown in places (brambles and hawthorns) and the wisteria was struggling to show itself. The very expensive oriental wooden seats are in need of some TLC. Overall though, a beautiful house and we will be back.

Mrs B,

Craster Colours is a quirky, colourful and comfortable house. We had a lovely week despite the weather. Very well equipped with everything you need for self catering. We had a small problem with the electrics but this was dealt with and instructions given to help.us fix the problem. The grandchildren loved the garden and all the toys in the house.

Mrs F,

A lovely cottage in a beautiful place. It was a great place to have a family holiday. Cooking a meal for 12 was challenging on the Aga!! The house was very well equipped and had everything we needed. The extra touches were greatly received. The pub in the village served lovely food and was only a stones throw away. We had a great holiday and would highly recommend craster colour.

Mrs W,

Fantastic house for our family to celebrate my Mum and Dad’s 80th birthday. Very well equipped. Everything you could wish for and comfortable, spacious, clean. All of the family enjoyed it. Perfect.

Mrs C,

We had a great stay at Coaster Colours. A lot of thought has clearly gone into making it as comfortable and well-equipped as possible and it was great that it was so dog friendly (we really appreciated the towels in particular!). The house worked really well for our group of 3 families over New Year and is in a great location.

Mrs N,

We have loved our stay here- all of the quirky and colorful touches, and the thoughtful provisions of essentials (and some treats!) The kids in the family have had a fantastic time here! We were all really comfortable and had a great holiday!

Past Customer,

We had a lovely time and really enjoyed the style of the place clearly somebody has put a lot of thought into making it a unique place to stay. We would love to come back sometime.

Mr R,

This is an amazing house . We were four couples and four dogs. Well equipped kitchen, lots of treats and plenty of space. Thank you to the owners

Mrs H,

Thank you for a fabulous weekend in your eclectic house! Loved all it's quirky colorful features. Very comfortable, plenty of hot water etc, very welcoming- we look forward to returning!

Location

Set down a private driveway in the middle of the village of Dunstan, just a short walk from the sea and the village of Craster where you'll find a good food pub, a seafood restaurant, art gallery and coffee shop based around the picturesque harbour and the magnificent vista of Dunstanburgh Castle. The house has parking for several cars and there are numerous walks from the doorstep, not just the walk to the village pub a few metres away!
