Description

A spacious haven of contemporary design within a 200-year-old shell, this cottage is located in the unspoilt fishing village of Craster within the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is just 100 metres from the harbour. With miles of spectacular coastline, it’s an ideal base for a family or a group of four who wish to explore this picturesque area. The coastal town of Bamburgh, with independent eateries and its magnificent sea-facing castle, is 13 miles away, with the coastal villages of Beadnell and Seahouses, discoverable along the way. Coastal walks accessible from the village are regularly cited as being within the top 10 best coastal walks in the country, offering unrivalled views and chances to spot wildlife. The walk from the harbour to Dunstanburgh Castle, an imposing castle located on a remote headland dating back to 1313, is less than 0.5 miles away.

A former schoolhouse, this charming property is beautifully designed to offer comfortable accommodation that blends original features with contemporary luxury. The ground floor features a living area with a cosy wood burner set within the original inglenook fireplace. The open-plan dining and kitchen area is stylish and spacious, with ample room for cooking and eating at leisure. In between these two spaces, you’ll find doors for accessing the outdoor area. The first floor is home to the two bedrooms: a king-size with an en-suite shower room, and a zip-and-link super-king-size (which can be made as a twin upon request). Both rooms have vaulted ceilings with original exposed beams. A modern family bathroom completes the interior offering.

Outside the cottage, guests can relax and enjoy the fresh sea air in a landscaped, terraced garden with stylish garden furniture. Perfect for catching the last rays of the day or for that morning cup of tea.

Mr N,

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this stylish and comfortable cottage. Very clean and very well equipped. Appreciated the quiet, tucked away location and lovely to hear the sea from the house. We would definitely like to come back on the future.

Mr A,

An excellent cottage in every way. Certainly a home from home. Highly recommend this cottage.

Mr R,

A lovely, comfortable, clean house in a perfect location. We felt very welcome.

Miss H,

We had a wonderful stay at Red Herring cottage. The property was perfectly located, spotlessly clean, cosy and well equipped. The welcome pack was very much appreciated as was the help of the owners in decorating the property for ours friend’s special birthday.

Mrs H,

Location

Down a lane, tucked behind Robson's smokery in the small village of Craster, just a minute's walk from the harbour, local pub, art gallery and cafe, and the seafront. Leave the car parked up and enjoy leisurely walks to Dunstanburgh Castle and Howick following the coastal footpath.
For further information on the area, see our Craster pages.
