Description

Once the royal capital of the kingdom of Northumbria, Bamburgh is famed for its stunning beach and spell-binding castle. A 15-mile drive away and world-famous for its medieval religious heritage and 16th-century castle, Lindisfarne – also known as Holy Island – can be reached via a paved causeway when the tides permit. Less than 4 miles in the opposite direction, the fishing village of Seahouses has a bustling harbour where boats offer trips to the nearby Farne Islands, a haven for puffins and seals, plus dolphins can often be seen swimming in the surrounding waters.

Behind the beach hut-like exterior of this distinctive Bamburgh abode is a spacious, classically styled holiday home that’s perfect for a large family or group of friends. Within sight of the castle, it boasts a wood burner, fashionable free-standing bath and fantastic play facilities for off-beach fun – no wonder it was once chosen by The Times as one of the ‘50 best cottages, beach houses and rural retreats’! All the accommodation here is on ground level, and the warm welcome begins in the cosy lounge where there’s space for everyone to gather and a wood burner to add a warm glow in the cooler months. At the rear of the property, the kitchen/diner has patio doors to the garden, while its on-trend fittings include a range-style cooker and large fridge/freezer. At the end of a busy day, four comfortable bedrooms await. The master bedroom has a super-king-size bed and en-suite shower room, and there are two double bedrooms and one further bedroom with full-size twin beds. To complete the convenience, there’s a family bathroom with free-standing bath and an additional, separate shower room.

There’s an enclosed lawned garden at the front of the property with views of the castle. To the rear, the landscaped garden (reached via a few steps) has patio furniture and large timber play equipment which children will love. Cross the road, stroll through the dunes and you’ll be on Bamburgh Beach in no time!

Reviews

Beautiful Property … Excellent Location Thank you for sharing your home with us it was very much appreciated

Mrs E,

The property is very roomy and well equipped Location was very good, 15 min walk to Bamburgh and 5 mins through the dunes to the beach. The children enjoyed the outdoor space of the garden.

Mr C,

Lovely house. No shortages of hot water and the heating was excellent. Short walk to the beach, high street and castle. We were 6 adults, a baby and a small dog, we all left happy.

Mrs Redwood D,

Beautiful accommodation, modern but homely. Clean and tidy with bags of space! Parking for 2 cars and all the home comforts you would need. Brilliant location for the beach and wonderful views of the castle.

Mrs D,

Excellent location, four good bedrooms and ample communal space.

Mr C,

We have used Coastal Retreats on several occasions and have always been delighted with the standard of the accommodation.

Mrs K,

The cottage is in a great location, easily walkable to Bamburgh village, castle, and the fabulous beach. Very comfortable, surprisingly spacious, and we loved the ‘beach hut’ vibe.

Dr S,

Beautiful peaceful location. Lovely holiday home with everything you could need. Plenty of space. Would recommend to anyone who loves to stay by the sea, beautiful beach. Recommend some new pans as no longer non-stick.

Mrs L,

My first visit to Northumberland with my daughter’s family and we loved the cottage and Bamburgh - the castle was amazing . The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the dog loved his walks on the spectacular beach. Thank you.

Mrs L,

A lovely clean house in a fantastic location.

Mrs G,

The property was in the ideal location, beautifully decorated, well furnished and equipped. I gave a score of 4 for cleanliness because the outside furniture had not been cleaned. All of the staff I have spoken to and emailed, before and after the holiday, have been extremely helpful, professional and friendly. The only slight disappointment was the property was not ready at 4pm as the cleaners were still there. We gained access at approximately 4.30pm which wasn't ideal as we had a 17month old baby with us. Nonetheless, it was a fabulous holiday in a great cottage. Thank you.

Mrs Lynn L,

I would have like use of the 3 bathrooms - especially the shower on one level as there was a disabled person travelling. This showers thermostat didn’t meet Health and Safety and was scolding hot. The knives in the kitchen wouldn’t cut a roast meat joint and ended up borrowing a neighbours, also issues with oven use. The property had some issues shared with handling agent, including photos. We enjoyed the holiday in the beautiful location and proximity to beach. A little TLC needs to be invested to make it back to its former glory!

Mrs L I,

Location

Bamburgh Beach House has an enviable location, within walking distance of the beach and just a few minutes' stroll from the centre of Bamburgh with its castle, museum, places to eat and small shops. Holy Island is north of Bamburgh and The Farne Islands can be accessed from Seahouses harbour, just five minutes south.
