Does size matter when it comes to having a great night’s sleep? All six of these Retreats boast super-king size beds. Plenty of room to spread-eagle without having to wait till you have the bed all to yourself.
The Lodge@Shirewater, Embleton
A couple’s cottage big on space, the bedroom at The Lodge is grand in every sense of the word. Not only can you have a delicious night’s sleep in its super-king bed but there’s enough room in its ensuite bathroom to fit two in the large walk-in wet room style shower or the freestanding bath. In art nouveau style with nods to Rennie Mackintosh throughout, this cottage is a celebration of the innovative designs of the 1920s.
With its calming palette of earthy tones, the master bedroom of Dairy Three, set in the eaves of this three-bedroom former farm building, is a haven for resting in the super-king bed, soaking in the adjacent slipper bath or just drinking in the sea and Dunstanburgh Castle views. At just 350 metres from Embleton Bay, you may also have your very own wave music to lull you to sleep.
At the other end of the hallway to the open living area at Bluegrass is its master bedroom where you can Retreat to after a day exploring the Northumberland coastline. The apartment has been designed in Scandi style for ease of holidaying and its main bedroom is no exception. Take advantage of the bathrobes and TV and get comfy in the super-king bed for an evening of relaxation.
While one of two ground floor bedrooms’ at Moo House lays claim to its super-king bed, this is one group getaway where there are fantastic bedrooms throughout. The master bedroom has a king size bed, ample space and a huge ensuite with bath and shower and both ground floor bedrooms (a super-king and a king) have ensuite showers. The kids don’t even miss out; the triple room has three adult-sized single beds so they also get to spread-eagle in their own child-like way.
The breadth of the super-king bed at this Retreat for eight overlooking Craster harbour and its nautical themed headboard will make you feel like you’re sailing your own ship into dream town. The two master bedrooms have king size beds and ensuites but if you like space to manoeuvre in your slumbers, then pick this room. The cottage’s magnificent location central to Craster coast and village will also add to the calming feeling that a holiday here will bring.
Lie back on the pillows of Salt Air’s master bedroom’s super-king bed and if that isn’t enough to make you feel like your holiday has truly started, then take a look to your left for a view of the waves breaking on the shoreline. This room with a view is perfect for lazy mornings looking out to sea and enjoying some glorious sunrises from the comfort of your bed.
