Your Instagram Retreats moments in Northumberland
Published: Wednesday 11th Jul 2018
If you were on a Coastal Retreats holiday, what would be your ‘Instagram moment’? Our guests shared their stories of holidays in Northumberland.
This wildly beautiful, inspiring and uncrowded part of England has some of the best beaches in the country, numerous castles, amazing skies and picturesque fishing villages. But don’t just take our word for it. Here, our guests show you their view of what a Coastal Retreats and Northumberland holiday can be like.
The views
The sunrise at our Beadnell Beach House Retreat is perfectly captured from the floor to ceiling windows of the lounge. With just the beach and sea in front of this holiday house for 10/12, this is coastal holidaying at its best. If an amazing sea view is number one on your list when choosing a place to stay, then also have a look at Waterfront, Salt Air, Harbour Master’s House, Craster Rocks, Craster Waves, Dairy Three and Quayside.
The beaches
The beaches are undoubtably one of the main reasons people choose to visit Northumberland. As @leafycouture says ‘so many beautiful beaches and adventures to be had’. We’ve compiled some of our favourites here, but one thing is definitely clear, unlike our southern counterparts, Northumberland beaches are rarely overcrowded and are a definite source of joy whatever time of year.
Picturesque villages and castles
Whether it is the fishing village of Craster with its world-renowned smoked kippers and views of the 18th century ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle or elegant Bamburgh with its majestic castle standing proud above the village and coast, Northumberland’s villages are all unique in what they have to offer. Seahouses is the gateway to The Farne Islands and Beadnell is the home of watersports, while the smaller villages of Newton, Alnmouth and Embleton are some of the best beaches on this strip of coast.
Enjoying life
We hope, at our Retreats, that you’ll find a cottage, not just to sleep in, but somewhere from which you can experience new things and have the opportunity to live a slower pace of life away from work and everyday things. Northumberland is definitely a place where after visiting you will return home refreshed and revitalised. This most-northerly English county is a far cry from bustling cities, offering travellers instead open country, island adventures and coastal getaways to achieve that peace you may be longing for.
Gorgeous gardens
Summer brings with it the desire to spend more time outside, whether that is morning coffee in the garden or a glass of wine beneath the stars at night. @anchorman2008 spent a glorious May holiday at The Apple Store which boasts its own orchard, free to pick from to make your own pie! If you have children in your party, you may want a garden so they can let off steam. Check out our Retreats with great outdoor spaces for more suggestions.
Making memories
We’d go as far as saying that after staying in Northumberland, we’d guarantee that you’ll want to return. As @cameramanda found after just a short break at The Forge that she couldn’t ‘wait to return’. What’s more we love it when our guests decide to holiday with us again, so offer returning guests 5% discount off a future holiday via a special online code.
