The Coastal Retreats wish list

Working at Coastal Retreats means we get to spend lots of our time in, and looking at, some pretty gorgeous holiday cottages. But where would we like to stay? Here our team reveal the places they are most excited about visiting in 2019.

The Arch

Caroline Kalu, PR & Marketing: When I go on holiday, I am drawn to naturally beautiful locations and places to stay. The Arch was a newcomer to our collection in summer 2018 and it is definitely somewhere that has caught my eye. The view of Dunstanburgh Castle from the master bedroom is outstanding, but I also like the fact it has a real fire for cosy nights in. Most of all, I love the care and attention that the owners took when designing their holiday home. That mix of cool blues and whites puts me in a relaxing frame of mind.

Bamburgh Five

Kate Combe, Sales: I never get tired of Bamburgh with its masterpiece of a castle and its must-visit beach, which is why I’ll be happy to see Bamburgh Five reopen again in March 2019 after its winter closure. It has probably one of the best views in Bamburgh, looking straight out towards the castle from its lounge. The owners have been uncompromising on luxury, so it is definitely a real treat to stay here.

Duneside House

Alison Mckeith, Director: Duneside House near the beach in Beadnell has been a real hit with guests in its first year. I particularly love its showstopper kitchen and its minimal, pared back style. What’s more it is close to all the watersports activities of Beadnell beach, which are a real hit with my soon-to-not-be teenage children.

The Apple Store

Fiona Mckeith, Director: This is really tricky for me as I spend a lot of time at all the cottages on changeover days and love aspects of all of them. But for 2019, I’d have to say The Apple Store. I worked with the owner to give this barn conversion at Tughall Steads a completely new look, accentuating its features and changing the layout to make it a really fun, family friendly holiday home with bags of personality. I think it is going to be very popular this summer. In other words: book it now.

Salt Air

Sanchia Coatsworth, Customer Relations and Sales: I enjoy long walks on the beach with my dogs and husband, escaping the city for the weekend. Salt Air is a fab apartment where you can arrive on Friday, walk a few paces to a nearby restaurant, and just chill. With the choice of either walking north or south on the coastal route from Seahouses beach, just across the road, you can walk to Bamburgh on the Saturday and opt for a lovely seafood lunch at The Potted Lobster in Bamburgh and then head to Beadnell on the Sunday for afternoon tea at the Salt Water Café. A perfect weekend of enjoying outdoor activities and great food.

Tweedswood

Emily Hanvey, Sales: Tweedswood has been part of our collection for a while but I love finding hidden away boltholes where me and my boyfriend can escape to. The fact that you can also catch a train and be in Edinburgh within an hour of Tweedswood makes it my kind of place – one where you can enjoy snug evenings by the fire, long walks by the River Tweed and some serious shopping in the city!
