Melrose, Scottish Borders
Close to the River Tweed, this area is known for its breathtaking landscapes, ancient abbeys and historic Border towns. Melrose itself has a stylish, contemporary feel and hours can be passed browsing its boutiques and great restaurants. Walk to Scott’s View – the inspiration of many of Sir Walter Scott’s romantic works as well as exploring this poet and novelist’s home Abbotsford House. If you are feeling more adventurous, you can try your hand at salmon fishing on the River Tweed before unwinding at the spa at Stobo Castle or snuggling up by the log burning fire at Tweedswood.
