The entrance of The Old Gardener’s makes you smile. It conjures up images of cottages on large country estates, with its conservatory entrance almost orangery-like in style.
It is somewhat fitting then that this classic cottage with its period features and Farrow and Ball colours was the former home of the gardener to the nearby historic Craster Tower.
Its ornate sense of Englishness does not stop there. There is a decadent roll top bath and a large antique bed to lay your head at night. A Belfast sink in the kitchen and a log burning stove in the lounge. The word homely does not do this place justice. It is timeless, enchanting and well-loved. An English garden cottage by the sea.
Take tea in the conservatory, and watch the world go by with the sun on your cheek. Or retreat to the back garden – a small oasis with the smell of sea in the air.
At just 10 minutes walk from the Craster shoreline, The Old Gardener’s is an excellent base for exploring this area of coastline. You’ll catch views of Dunstanburgh Castle on the headland from the upper floors of the cottage and taste some great seafood at one of the village eateries. Closer to the cottage is The Cottage Inn pub where you can pop in for last orders without worrying how you are going to get home.
