Family adventures at Bamburgh Six

Published: Monday 3rd Jun 2019

Helena Ablard won a £100 Coastal Retreats voucher in May’s 24 hours with… guest blog competition for her write-up of her family holiday at Bamburgh Six.

Like every other morning this week we couldn’t wait to open the curtains and see by far one of the best views we have ever seen from our window. We opened the door to let the fresh sea air in and enjoyed a relaxing morning with breakfast at Bamburgh Six.

After breakfast we got ready and set off for Alnwick Castle and Gardens. We have been to the castle before to do the broomstick training so decided this time to venture into the gardens. It was a beautiful sunny day and the gardens did not disappoint. My two munchkins had fun doing the Giant Adventure Trail, spotting the dinosaur nests and pretending to be a palaeontologist which my littlest has now added to his ever growing list of jobs for when he’s ‘BIG’! We also had a yummy lunch in the Pavilion Cafe before heading down to admire the view of the castle.

After a busy day the best part was returning back to Bamburgh Six to relax, play games together and have dinner. After dinner we had a ritual of going out onto the cricket pitch to play cricket, football and golf. We then wandered down onto the beach as the sun was setting. Perfect end to the day.

What is most important on a holiday for us is that the children feel relaxed where they are staying, so then we feel relaxed, and Bamburgh Six certainly offered that. They loved the themed decor in the ‘Pirate Room’ and couldn’t decide which room they wanted to sleep in. All the little touches were thoughtful and comforting.
